Flights take about 35 to 40 minutes. A helicopter takes about 40 to 45 minutes. Ferries leave from Piraeus and Rafina, and Rafina is the closest port to Athens Airport.
A strong north wind that blows on many summer days, especially in July and August. On meltemi days, the south-coast beaches are sheltered and the north coast gets rough.
On windy days, head south: Psarou, Platis Gialos, Ornos, Paradise and Elia. On calm days, the north coast and the island of Rhenia, best reached by boat, are quiet and beautiful.
Taxis are few in high season, so most visitors rent a car or book a private driver. Mykonos Town is pedestrian, so you park on its edge and walk in.
It is the easiest way to reach Delos, Rhenia and beaches without crowds. A half day suits a swim and lunch; a full day lets you go further at your own pace.
